Jane Austen comes to modern-day Los Angeles in Claire LaZebnik's imaginative take on Persuasion , where seventeen-year-old Anna Eliot finds out whether there's such a thing as a second chance when it comes to first love. Anna is tired of worrying about what other people think.

With her signature wit and expertly authentic teen voice, Claire LaZebnik the author of fan favorites Epic Fail and The Trouble with Flirting once again breathes new life into a perennially popular love story. Fans of Polly Shulman, Maureen Johnson, and, of course, Jane Austen will love this irresistibly funny and romantic tale of first loves and second chances. Anna, the protagonist, is one of those girls who cares a bit too much about what her friends think.
In doing so, she misses out on a romance that could have been life-changing. Fast-forward a few years, and the guy she scorned, Finn, returns looking, well, pretty damn hot. Not only does Anna have to face her regret every time she sees Finn, but she has to fight back the fact that she is still very much into him.
The Last Best Kiss by Claire LaZebnik | Book Review
The unconventional guy gets the beauty at the beginning, and she proves to be as cliche as her role deems. The idea of redemption in this novel is very sweet because it allows for second chances. I like the fact that this novel has more going on than the romance.

A troubled relationship with a parent and siblings is another issue that teenagers may face nowadays. The writing is great and makes the story flow in such a way that the pages will just pass and pass. By comparing these two characters, LaZebnik is showing us that Anna is surrounded by two extremes: over-control and having no control whatsoever.
